You can make sure you're running the current version by checking the About option in the menu when you click the LibX icon next to the search bar.


How do I get the latest version?

When a revision or a new version of the LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans Library Edition of LibX is available, it will be automatically updated as any other add-on or extension for your browser.

See the Troubleshooting tab if this is not happening.


Test Drive LibX

Intrigued by LibX but not quite sure whether you want to install it?

You can give it a test drive by going to the Library's LibX Edition page, click on the "Demo LibX 2.0" button and check out some of the features before you install the extension.

Some of the features available through the fully-installed version of LibX are not available in the demo.


What is LibX?

LibX is an open source add-on and extension available for Chrome and Firefox that extends library resources and services to your browser.

Once installed, you will see a new icon next to your browser's search bar:

With the LibX extension you can:

  • Search the Library catalog, PubMed, and selected databases
  • Re-load pages to authenticate for off-campus access for pages such as journal articles
  • Check the Library collection for books you find in Amazon
  • Link to articles cited on a variety of sites including Wikipedia

The LibX add-on also expands the functions available through the right click of your mouse so that you can quickly access search options and easily reload a page for off-campus access. See the Searching and Off-Campus Access tabs for more information.

The Library's LibX Edition has many available options:

  • Search allows you to search the Library's catalog, a variety of EBSCOhost databases, the Library's Digital Collections, and PubMed. More info can be found under the Searching tab.
  • Links provides shortcuts to more popular sites:

  • Proxies reloads a web page using the Library's off-campus authentication. See the Off-Campus tab for more information.
  • Preferences lets you cater how you would like the Library's LibX edition to work in your browser. Check the Customizing tab for more tips.

LibX on sites

The LibX extension also provides built-in quick access to Library resources from various sites.

Citations on Wikipedia that display the Library's WebBridge Link Resolver icon allow you to check for the availability of the cited work:
